Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX:
The 90 Series Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is often one of the most overlooked import SUV’s of the 1990’s. One might argue that it gets overshadowed by its big brother, the 80 series Land Cruiser, but this Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX is equally as, if not more capable. With seating for seven, selectable 4wd, and a reworked 3.0 turbo diesel engine, the Prado is a performance SUV with practicality in mind and is just as worthy of bearing the Land Cruiser marque as any other Toyota truck. This is our first Prado on the lot and is a fantastic 1996 model year example optioned in TX trim. Spotless from head to toe, it’s clear the previous owner took exceptional care of this SUV throughout its 182,459 km’s traveled in Japan. Equating to about 113k verified miles this Prado honestly shows as if it had half that, the original Toyota Blue Royale (K14) and silver two tone body work is remarkable, with no clear coat fade, dents, or even major scratches. Silver and chrome accents on the front bull bar and door handles, and silver 5 spoke alloys perfectly complement the body and make this Prado exceptionally easy on the eyes. OEM fog lights, rain guards, and a fender mirror are all genuine Toyota accessories that add a little bit of spice to the otherwise barebones exterior. The interior is home to the only modification on the vehicle, an aftermarket touch screen head unit. While the navigation system is still convinced the car is in Japan, the audio is clear and Bluetooth and USB functions still work flawlessly. The interior is fantastic and matches the condition of the exterior quite well. The original multicolor cloth upholstery on the seats is in perfect condition, with no rips, tears, or bolster wear and are complemented by matching door cards and floor mats that have held up equally as well. The dash plastics are trimmed in a flat grey finish and are in great shape, and all buttons and switches work as expected down to the automatic climate control with AC. The multi information display contains a plethora of useful tools for trips on and off-road, and is also original to the vehicle. The third row folds up into the sides of the trunk to make more room for cargo, and all passengers have more than ample leg room. Turn the key and the 3.0 1KZ-TE fires right up. For a four cylinder diesel, this powerplant has a surprising amount of get up and go and feels right at home paired to the 4 speed automatic transmission. The transfer case engages high and low gears without a hitch and the factory suspension, paired with good Yokohama tires offers a comfortable ride on the street. If you’re looking for a capable midsize SUV with classic Toyota reliability and plenty of JDM charm, this Prado is ready to cruise right into your driveway.
